How do I know if my GM Vehicle has an HMI?
Excellent question! We’ll do our best here to help you determine if your GM vehicle has an HMI so that you can purchase the appropriate Replacement HMI!
GM started using the Bosch HMI in in the first Generation of Cadillac CUE in 2013 Model Year vehicles and shortly there after entered mass production in other vehicles in 2014. The HMI was used almost exclusively for GM’s Mid and High level Infotainment systems from 2014-2019 on most platforms. The most common application included an 8″ display screen so if you have a 2014-2019 GM Vehicle with an 8″ screen you’ve likely got an HMI!
To be absolutely certain you’ll need to locate your vehicles Regular Production Option (or RPO) label generally found in the glove box. It will be a silver label with your VIN and a bunch of three digit alphanumeric “codes” on it. You’ll be looking for RPO CODE “IO4”, “IO5” or “IO6”. IO4 being the base model 4″ screen found primarily in pickups while the IO5 is the midlevel 8″ unit without factory navigation (These units have “OnStar” nav) and finally the IO6 which is the up level 8″ unit with factory embedded navigation.
If you have any of the above RPO Codes great news your vehicle has an HMI!
